Biome finder

Check which biome generates at a given position for a seed, version and dimension.

How biome generation works

Since Minecraft 1.18 the Overworld chooses biomes from six climate values — temperature, humidity, continentalness, erosion, weirdness and depth — sampled in three dimensions from noise seeded by the world seed. The Nether has used a similar climate system since 1.16, and the End is decided by distance from the central island.

Reproducing that faithfully means running the real generation code. This site does that through a WebAssembly build of an open source Minecraft world generation library rather than approximating it, so biome lookup is only available when that engine is present in the deployment. See the technical notes →

What works without the engine

  • Structure region candidates, computed exactly from the seed.
  • Slime chunks, which depend only on the seed and chunk coordinates.
  • Chunk, region and Nether coordinate conversions.
