How to find a woodland mansion in Minecraft
A woodland mansion is the only place evokers, and therefore totems of undying, generate naturally. It is also usually thousands of blocks from spawn.
Why mansions are so rare
Mansions use an 80-chunk region grid with 20 chunks of separation — the widest spacing of any structure — and they require dark forest, which is itself an uncommon biome. Both conditions have to line up, so most 80×80 chunk regions contain no mansion at all.
Finding one on the map
- Open your seed and enable only the woodland mansion layer.
- Zoom out until several region grid squares are visible — mansion candidates are thousands of blocks apart.
- Pick the candidate closest to spawn and copy its coordinates.
- Cross-check the biome: mansions only generate in dark forest, so candidates in other biomes will be empty.
The in-game alternative
A cartographer villager sells a woodland explorer map for emeralds and a compass. That map points to the nearest mansion from the village, which is often quicker than travelling to a distant candidate.
Preparing for the mansion
- Evokers summon vexes, which fly through walls — bring a shield and ranged options.
- Vindicators hit extremely hard; full iron is the practical minimum.
- The mansion is unlit inside, so hostile mobs spawn continuously. Light rooms as you clear them.
- Totems of undying only drop from evokers, so clear the upper floors where they are most common.
